Apply for a visa at the Vietnamese embassy in Pretoria
The Vietnamese Embassy in Pretoria is the only agency in South Africa that can issue visas for South Africans coming to Vietnam. You can come to this office to apply and wait for visa approval. The processing time is about 5 – 7 days.
If you are applying for a short-stay tourist visa, you need to prepare a visa application, a 3×4 cm photo and passport. In some cases, the embassy will ask you to provide round-trip flight tickets and hotel reservations.
If you apply for a business visa, you need to have proof of your purpose, such as an invitation letter from your business partner.
If you are applying for a multiple entry visa, you also need to prepare some additional documents proving the purpose and the reason why you need to enter the country multiple times, such as documents from the company to prove business trip, the travel itinerary which shows that you have to enter several times, etc.

Apply for a visa on arrival
Visa on arrival is the type of visa that you will get at the airport when you come to Vietnam. This is the optimal option that we recommend. There are several reasons why we made this comment:
Firstly, you will not have to move to the Vietnamese embassy in Pretoria to apply. You just need to apply online for an approval letter and then use this letter to receive visa at the airport. Save a lot of time.
Second, you do not need to prepare any documents for applying approval letter, instead of preparing a lot of complicated documents when applying at the embassy. With any type of visa (tourist visa, business visa, multiple entry visa, etc., you do not need to submit any documents at all). Save a lot of effort and time to prepare paper-works.
Thirdly, the processing time for obtaining a letter of approval is very quick. In less than 2 working days, you have a letter of approval in hand. Save time of waiting.
Fourth, the application fee is very cheap. For only 6 USD, you get a letter of approval for a 1-month single entry visa. Save a lot of money.
How do South Africans apply for a visa on arrival to Vietnam?
Procedure to apply a visa on arrival for South Africans coming to Vietnam is very simple. You will go through 2 steps:
Step 1: Get letter of approval online
The approval letter is a document that allows you to get a visa at the airport, which is the most important paper for you to get your visa on arrival. To get a letter of approval, you must go through a travel agency representative in Vietnam and apply online. You just need to fill in your personal information, choose a visa type and information related to your trip to Vietnam. Processing time for obtaining the approval letter is 2 business days. You can go to the following link to get a letter of approval:

Step 2: Get visa at the airport
The approval letter will be emailed to you, but you must print it out, and prepare your original passport and two 3×4 cm photos to get the visa at the airport. Upon arrival at the airport, you come to the visa on arrival counter and submit all the above documents. Then pay the visa fee (visa fee is the fee for receiving a visa at the airport, and is directly paid in cash to the immigration officer: US $25 for 1-time entry, US $50 for multiple entry). After receiving your documents, the immigration officer will stick the visa on your passport.
