From the time of Coronavirus outbreak in China, many countries were concerned and has stopped to grant visa for Chinese citizens, included Hong Kong and Macao SAR. From the end of January 2020, Vietnam Government decided to stop granting new visa application from Hong Kong and Macao applicants. But then, when the Coronavirus is well controlled in Hong Kong and Macao, the rule has been changed. Until February 19th, 2020, Hong Kong and Macao citizens can apply Vietnam the same as they did before.

Visa on arrival is the first option which is opened again for Hong Kong and Macao citizens at the beginning of February. Hong Kong and Macao passport holders can apply online to get a visa approval letter, and then use this letter for getting visa at Vietnamese airport. The procedure is the same as before. Hong Kong and Macao citizens do not need to submit any documents to apply approval letter online, just fill out the visa online application form. After two working days, the approval letter will be sent to applicants’ email. When coming to Vietnam, the applicants prepare these documents: original passport + two photos 3×4 cm, approval letter (print out), and stamp fee in cash. When arriving at the Vietnamese airport, Hong Kong and Macao citizens come to “visa on arrival counter”, submit these documents and get visa stamp.

Evisa is recently allowed to apply for Hong Kong and Macao passport holders. This is the best option for those coming to Vietnam less than 30 days with a single entry. Hong Kong and Macao citizens can apply Vietnam electronic visa easily again now. You need to prepare digital photo and passport scanned, then fill out the visa application form online, then submit these documents. After two working days, electronic visa will be sent to applicants’ email. You need to print it out, and show it when coming to Vietnam.

Both visa on arrival and Evisa are available for Hong Kong and Macao citizens with tourist and business purpose. If you come to Vietnam as a tourist, you should apply tourist visa. If you come to Vietnam for business activities, you should apply business visa. The procedure for getting business visa is as easy as getting tourist visa, no documents are required.
