The 1-year visa is a type of visa granted for those who want to come to Vietnam for the long-term period, with the tourism or business purpose. In the past, many countries can apply and get Vietnam 1-year visa easily, but the rule recently changed from August 2018.

From August 2018, only American passport holders can apply Vietnam visa up to 1 year. The six-month visa is the same. The other nationalities can get maximum 3-month visa to Vietnam. The 6-month and 1-year visa are both available online for the US citizens.

Does 1-year Vietnam visa still work for The US in 2020?

In 2020, the rule still keeps the same. The 6-month and 1-year visa are only available for American passport holders, and they can apply these types of visa online. It takes 5 working days to process the 1-year visa and can be expedited in 1 working day. What the applicants need to do is accessing the online application form, filling out all required information and receiving the visa result through email.

The American applicants need to make sure their passport must be valid more than 1.5 years (cause it’s required to be valid more than 6 months from the date of exit), and still have a lot of blank pages (for stamping).

How about the other nationalities?

Other nationalities (not USA) can get maximum 3-month visa in 2020. It doesn’t mean that all nationalities can get Vietnam 3-months visa. Most nationalities can get up to 3-month visa, but some particular countries, the maximum period of time to visit Vietnam is limited less than 3 months.
