Yes, Hong Kong citizens need to apply for visa to enter Vietnam
There are 3 ways to apply: Visa at the consulate, Visa On Arrival and E-visa. Each one has its own advantages and disadvantages. Depending on your need and purpose, you can consider to choose the most suitable one for you.
Applying at the Vietnamese consulate in Hong Kong

Following this way, you need to prepare some required documents in advance:
- Fill in the visa application and supporting documents
- The original passport must be valid for at least 6 months
- Submit 2 passport-sized photos taken without glass wears
- Do the payment directly at the embassy or consulate

Visa On Arrival
Vietnamese government allows every citizen in the world to apply for Visa On Arrival. This is a type of online visa with the convenient and easy way. You just need to access the website, fill in the online application by providing some necessary information, then you will receive the approval letter. In this letter, your name will be shared with others – so if you mind about this, you can require to make a private one with the extra fee.
With the approval letter, you need to print it out and show it to get the visa stamp at the “Visa On Arrival” counter after arriving in the Vietnam airport. S
The required documents you need to prepare:
- Your original passport
- Visa approval letter
- Visa application form
- Visa stamp fee (in cash – US dollards)
After submitting, you just need to wait for calling and get your passport back with the visa stamp. Finally, you can feel free to use it to enter into Vietnam.

Last but not least, you can’t enter into Vietnam through any sea port or border land-crossing with Visa On Arrival, just enter through 6 six fixed international airports as below:

Electronic visa (E-visa)
E-visa is also a type of online visa. Vietnamese government allows 80 countries and 2 territories to apply for e-visa, and Hong Kong is among of them.
You just need to fill in the online application form by providing some personal information. Then doing the online payment, you will receive e-visa via e-mail. You just need to print it out and show it at the airport.
